Free Stripe fee calculator for US online card payments

Find out how much Stripe may deduct, what you will take home, and how much to charge for a target net amount. This calculator uses Stripe's standard US pricing for online card and wallet payments in USD—not a global default rate.

How the Stripe reverse fee calculator works

Enter an amount once to see both sides of the transaction. The Stripe processing fee calculator shows the estimated fee and your net amount. It also works as a reverse fee calculator. It finds the lowest whole-cent charge that leaves you with the amount entered after the selected fees.

For a standard domestic online card, a $100.00 payment has an estimated $3.20 fee. You take home $96.80. To net exactly $100.00, the reverse calculation says to charge $103.30. Select international card, currency conversion, or manual entry when those conditions apply.

Check what you will receive

Useful for a freelancer checking an invoice, an online seller pricing an order, or an operations team reconciling a payment. The result separates each selected fee instead of showing only one total.

Work backward from your target

Use the displayed Charge amount when you need a specific take-home amount for a project, deposit, subscription payment, or client invoice.

Stripe processing fees included in this calculator

For a US business on Stripe's standard pricing, a successful domestic online card transaction starts at 2.9% + 30¢. Manual entry, an international card, and currency conversion can each add a percentage fee. These charges can stack, so the headline rate may not match every payment. Read our payment processing fee guide for a plain-English explanation of percentage and fixed fees.

These rates were checked against the official Stripe Pricing & Fees page. If your account has custom or interchange-plus pricing, use the rates in your Stripe Dashboard or agreement. For a simple estimate with your own percentage and fixed charge, use the percentage fee calculator.

Why your Stripe fee may be higher than 2.9% + 30¢

Start with the payment itself, not just the advertised domestic rate. A card issued outside the US adds the international-card fee. Currency conversion is a separate condition, so it can apply on top of the international fee. Manually keying in the card can add another percentage charge.

For example, a $100.00 domestic online card payment produces a $3.20 estimate. An international card raises it to $4.70. If Stripe must also convert the currency, the estimate becomes $5.70. Manual entry would raise it again to $6.20.

The 30¢ fixed charge also makes the effective fee rate look larger on small payments. At the base rate, this calculator estimates $0.59 on a $10 payment—an effective rate of 5.9%—versus $3.20 on $100, or 3.2%.

How much should you charge to cover Stripe fees?

Do not simply add the fee from your target amount. Stripe applies the percentage to the larger amount the customer pays. That is why you need a reverse calculation. Enter the amount you want to keep, choose every applicable card condition, and use the displayed Charge figure as your grossed-up quote.

Before passing a processing fee to a customer, check your contract, card-network rules, and applicable laws. The calculator estimates the math. It does not determine whether a surcharge is allowed or how you must disclose it.

Know what the estimate does—and does not—cover

This free Stripe fee calculator models one successful online card or wallet payment in USD. It is designed for a standard-priced US Stripe account. It does not switch rates by country or calculate ACH Direct Debit, Stripe Terminal, micropayment, or custom pricing.

The estimate also excludes separate charges from Billing, Connect, Tax, Radar, Invoicing, disputes, refunds, payouts, and other Stripe products. For other processors, use our PayPal fee calculator or Square fee calculator.

Each percentage line is rounded half up to the nearest cent before the fixed fee is added. Stripe may group or round components differently. Your actual balance transaction can therefore differ.

If a fee looks unexpected, check the payment method and card country in your Stripe Dashboard. Also compare the presentment currency, settlement currency, and fee details with the options selected here.

All calculations run locally in your browser. Results are estimates, not Stripe statements, financial advice, tax advice, or permission to surcharge a customer. This independent calculator is not affiliated with or endorsed by Stripe. Stripe is a trademark of Stripe, Inc.

Stripe fee calculator FAQ

Straight answers about US Stripe card fees, reverse calculations, international payments, and refunds.

1

How do I calculate Stripe fees?

For the standard US domestic online card rate modeled here, multiply the full amount the customer pays by 2.9%, round to cents, and add $0.30. Then add any applicable manual-entry, international-card, and currency-conversion percentages. On a $100 domestic online card payment, that is an estimated $3.20 fee and a $96.80 take-home amount.

2

How much should I charge to receive $100 on Stripe?

With the standard 2.9% + $0.30 US domestic online card rate and no additional card fees, charge $103.30 to net $100.00 under this calculator's rounding. Select every condition that applies before using the reverse quote.

3

How are Stripe international fees calculated?

Stripe's standard US pricing lists an extra 1.5% for an international card. If Stripe must also convert the currency, it lists another 1%. The two conditions are separate and can both apply to the same payment.

4

Why are my Stripe fees so high?

Check whether the card was issued abroad, whether currency conversion occurred, and whether the card details were entered manually. Also check for custom pricing or separate Stripe product, dispute, payout, or tax charges, which this calculator does not model. Your Dashboard is the source of truth for an actual payment.

5

Can I pass Stripe fees on to customers?

That depends on your contract, the card-network rules, and the laws where you and your customer are located. Use the reverse estimate for the math, but confirm that a surcharge is permitted and properly disclosed before adding one.

6

Are Stripe fees refundable?

Stripe's refund fee guidance says standard-priced businesses generally are not charged to issue a refund for most payment methods. However, the original payment-processing, Connect, and currency-conversion fees are not returned. Bank transfers and custom pricing can differ. Refund costs are not included in this calculator.
